Changing hats....becoming a supervisor or manager

Changes which occur in the life of a person when one switches over as a manager from the position of a researcher are discussed. Many things are inherently different in the two areas. A successful person in a technical role must be creative and innovative and capable of keeping up with new developments. In contrast, a manager must be good at interacting with people in various roles and be able to communicate in many non-technical areas. It can be concluded that successful managers must have very different skills and personalities than successful scientists.
