Two rather different concepts of biomedical engineering (BME) education exist in the respective world community for over ten years: the "classical" full-featured engineering approach, only partially completing the tuition by the most necessary medical knowledge, and the newer very interdisciplinary approach putting almost the same weight to the medical as to the technological (though naturally rather descriptive) education. The approaches are shortly compared and the solution accepted at the Brno University of Technology - to run both types of the tuition in parallel - is reported on in a certain level of details, particularly as for the already running BSc curriculum. The possibilities of extending the interdisciplinary MSc education besides the existing full-featured engineering curriculum are discussed briefly. It is concluded that both types have their substantiation and none should be sacrificed in favour of the other.
