摘要
In this paper, we propose a scalable resource reservation scheme (SRRS) for signaling multimedia sessions in the next-gene ration Internet with heterogeneous subnetworks and diverse application requirements. SRRS is the first reservation scheme that provides scalable QoS guarantees based on slotted reservation and aggregation so that the total number of states stored in a router or in the entire Internet is independent of the number of QoS sessions in the router or in the Internet. SRRS is also scalable to high link speeds by using its aggressive or optimistic transmission discipline and slotted reservation to reduce the latency and buffer requirements and to increase the utilization. Resource reservation and allocation in SRRS are adaptive to traffic conditions, which is particularly useful for achieving adaptability in mobile networks and providing efficient fault protection in optical networks.
