摘要
Eco-friendly lubricants are gaining more attention because of the environmental impacts caused by nonrenewable petroleum products. Vegetable and synthetic oils are considered as a potential base-stock for bio-lubricants. It was observed that certain lubricant properties such as oxidative stability, tribological behavior of these bio-lubricants need to be improved. The addition of nanoparticles is considered as an effective solution to enhance the performance of the lubricant. This paper overviewed the effect of various nanoparticles as additives on the tribological properties of different lubricating base oils such as mineral oils, vegetable oils, and synthetic oils. The addition of multiple nanoparticles (0.1 to 0.5 wt%) has indicated an improvement of 3 to 50% in these lubricating oils' tribological properties under different testing conditions. The review has also explained the mechanism of nanoparticles by which the tribological properties are enhanced. (c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
