The value of immunohistochemical techniques in the diagnosis of salivary gland tumours

摘要：
immunohistochemical techniques provide an additional information about salivary tumoral pathology diagnosis, functional differentiation and prognosis. An immunohistochemical analysis in 42 salivary gland tumours was performed using 19 different monoclonal antibodies. We wish to emphasize that the positivity for glial fibrillary acidic protein makes possible to differentiate the polymorphous low grade adenocarcinoma from adenoid cystic carcinoma. The diffuse immunoreaction for epithelial membrane antigen and for S-100 protein of polymorphous low grade adenocarcinoma allows to differentiate from adenoid cystic carcinoma and adenocarcinoma, respectively. Cytokeratins identifies tumoral nests in those epidermoid carcinomas which underwent radiotherapy.
