L-propionylcarnitine inhibits superoxide anion production by human platelets

摘要
We investigated the effect of 1-propionylcarnitine, a cellular constituent that plays a role in phospholipid metabolism, on oxygen free radicals produced by human platelets. L-propionylcarnitine was able to inhibit dose-dependently platelet response to agonists such as collagen or arachidonic acid. Moreover, 1-propionylcarnitine induced a reduced release of C-14-arachidonic acid by platelets stimulated with exogenously added arachidonic acid or collagen. We also assessed oxygen free radicals production by cultured endothelial cells incubated with 1-propionylcarnitine. L-propionylcarnitine (10-50 muM) inhibited O-2(-) production by endothelial cells stimulated with lipopolysaccharide and significantly reduced the increase of O-2(-) observed in endothelial cells that had undergone anoxia-reoxygenation.
