摘要：

The essay aims to shed new light on the iconography of the fourteenth-century fresco with the Madonna operosa in the basilica of Santa Chiara in Naples. The anonymous artist has given a personal interpretation of the medieval subject of the Madonna sewing next to the Child Jesus. The posture of the Child, seated with crossed legs, in the act of grasping his own foot, shows an up to now unnoticed clear debt from the Capitoline Spinario. The thorn is here turned in attribute of Christ Child, as a prefiguration of his Passion. This compositional choice could be well linked with the gift of the sacred thorn of Christs' crown which in 1367 Queen Joanna I of Anjou received from her cousin Charles V of Valois.
