Several studies have investigated the role of Helicobacter pylori infection as cause of dyspepsia and gastroduodenal mucosal injury. Whether H. pylori infection and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs act independently or synergistically remains to be established. The possibility that H. pylori gastritis is a cause of dyspeptic symptoms and has an impact on the development of dyspepsia and ulceration in patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs needs further investigation, Curr Opin Gastroenterol 14 (suppl 1):S47-S51 (C) 1998 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
