Remediation of a new reinforcing steel cathodic protection system during construction

A post concrete pour electrical survey of an included impressed current cathodic protection system revealed anode ribbon-to-steel reinforcing bar electrical short conditions in several sections of a seawater structure concrete foundation. Temporary activation of anode feeders was used for testing to identify shorted locations. Data obtained from the temporary testing helped determine areas with compliant and noncompliant protection criteria. Remediation of the noncompliant areas was accomplished by strategic installation of additional surface ribbon anodes and embedded/stationary reference cells.
