ENGLISH LITERATURE FOR CHILDREN IN RUSSIAN TRANSLATIONS (Review of the book: Goodwin E. Translating England into Russian. The Politics of Children's Literature in the Soviet Union and Modern Russia. London: Bloomberg Publishing, 2020. 256 p.)

The article reviews the monograph of the well-known British specialist in the field of history and theory of translation of fiction Elena Goodwin "Translating England into Russian. The Politics of Children's Lite-rature in the Soviet Union and Modern Russia" (London: Bloomberg Publishing, 2020). E. Goodwin analyzes translations of classic English books for children into Russian in the period of 1918-2015, thus creating a broad panorama of interaction between cultures and literatures of the period. The very term translation acquires a broad meaning in the book: the author does not simply describe the history and linguistic aspects of translation of English children's literature, but also outlines the opportunities of transfer of national meanings (Englishness) into a different culture. Three Appendixes that follow the main text include lists of classic English books for children of the period and their Russian translations. The book is intended for specialists in a number of fields (philology, culturology, translation studies), but also for everybody who is interested in English-Russian cultural exchange and who enjoys reading English children's classical literature in the original and in Russian translations.
