摘要
The occurrence of adverse events related to medications is frequent in the elderly, which increases the severity according to the complexity of the therapeutic regimen. The aim of this study is to discuss the physiological aspects of aging and its impact on geriatric pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, as well as to analyze the medications considered potentially inappropriate for the elderly and describe the harm and benefits drug interactions can cause in this elderly person. This is an exploratory literature review study, seeking to gather and systematize research results on the physiological characteristics of aging, contributing to the deepening of knowledge about its repercussions on body pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics and its direct relationship with drug interactions. This relationship is due to the complexity of clinical and pathological conditions, as well as the need for polypharmacy and its multiple pharmacological agents in view of the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic changes inherent to aging.
