Aspects of e-Learning and Knowledge Management Convergence in Knowledge-Based Society

The link between the learner and his work in the actual knowledge-based society has become more complex because of the convergence of the tendencies evolving on the technology and education realm. The way knowledge may be distributed across both time and space has already a name - e-Learning or online education - as a result of the extraordinary growing use of technology in education and of the Internet vehicle in the distribution of information and knowledge. But this knowledge is better captured, organized and delivered by knowledge management techniques, using knowledge management systems that are able to identify the most relevant information and distribute it according specific needs and demands. A discussion on basic concepts of knowledge management and e-Learning systems, the relation between them in terms of common features, and how knowledge management and e-Learning converge for improved online education and training in the knowledge-based society, is the aim of this paper.
