Effect of Nd and Dy on the microstructure and mechanical property of the as extruded Mg-1Zn-0.6Zr alloy

摘要
Microstructure, texture and mechanical property of Mg-1Zn-0.6Zr alloys were systematically investigated. With the addition of Nd or Dy, obvious grain refinement and texture weakening effect were obtained compared with the alloy free of rare earth element. Notable improvement in ductility was got by adding Nd or Dy in the alloy. The enhanced ductility may be attributed to finer grain structure and weaker texture. Yield strength of the alloy was also enhanced by adding rare earth. The strengthening effect is attributed to the grain refinement. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
