摘要
Light-weight tubular structures have been employed as an ideal energy absorbing elements in aircraft manufacturing industries for their superior energy absorbing capability. The present article discusses about the numerical investigations on the oblique crushing behavior and energy absorption performance of various aluminum capped cylindrical tubes. Numerical models were developed with ABAQUS/CAE (R) code to predict the deformation behaviour of the proposed tubes under oblique impact force. The defor- mation response of proposed aluminium tube structures was related with the conventional cylindrical (simple) tubes and the results revealed that aluminium capped cylindrical tubes absorbed more impact energy than the conventional cylindrical tubes. The overall outcomes exposed that the proposed alu- minium capped cylindrical tubes are remarkable as energy absorbing structures in dissipating impact energy in the oblique direction.
