Process intensification: Performance studies and integration of multifunctional compact condenser in distillation processes

摘要
The performance of shell and tube and cross flow plate heat exchangers has been compared for condensation duties. The comparison was made using HYSYS flow sheeting software for the condensation of pure chloroform and butane/propane mixtures. The heat transfer rate was higher and the pressure drop on the cooling water side was lower for the cross flow condenser. It has been found that it is more beneficial to use the increased performance of the compact condenser to reduce the cooling water requirement rather than using as a direct replacement for the existing condenser.
