摘要
This paper uses a case study of the automotive industry to argue that manufacturing engineering requires a new philosophical framework if major advances are to be realised. It is argued that the optimisation or incremental improvement of existing methods can obscure the potential for fundamental change, and uses the example of Micro Factory Retailing to illustrate the scope quantum improvements via the reinvention of an industry.
