Effect of annealing conditions on hydrogen embrittlement of Inconel 718

摘要
Several kinds of tensile specimens with different precipitation of strengthening phases were made by different heat treatment processes. Strength and ductility of the uncharged and hydrogen-charged specimens were measured to assess their hydrogen embrittlement (HE) tendency, respectively. The effects of heat treatment conditions on HE were evaluated by comparing the hydrogen-induced ductility losses for different kinds of specimens. The HE decreases with annealing. Experimental results suggest that the strengthening phases, i.e. gamma" and gamma', aggravate the HE of Inconel 718. We propose that the HE resistance of Inconel 718 can be improved by dissolving these phases as long as the strength requirements can be met for certain industrial applications.
