The propagation mechanism of thermal fatigue cracks on Ti/Al2O3 functionally graded materials

摘要
The phases in the Ti/Al2O3 FGM section cross ware tested by XRD. The origin of thermal fatigue cracks and their propagation way and shapes were studied. The results show that the system is mainly composed Ti, Al2O3 and a few of TiAl, TiAl, AlNb2. The thermal fatigue cracks mainly germinate and expand at the Ti3Al particles in the interface of Ti/Al2O3 and the pores around the Ti3Al particles. Along with the diversification of components, the propagation form of cracks changes from intergranular crack into transcrystalline fracture and the cracks propagation route is not straight-line but deflection at different gradient layers.
