in the period 1992-1996 were treated for malignant fiver tumors. The diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma was etablished in 118 cases. In most patients HCC developed in a currhotic liver. 56 cases were considered as inoperable, 62 were operated on, but the radical operation was feasible only in 34 cases. Perioperative mortality rate was 11,7%. in 8 patients the recurrency of the disease occurred during the first postoperative year. 20 patients live without symptoms of malignancy. The authors stress the necessity of regular investigations in patients of high risk groups.
