摘要
Vibration in automotives lot of unaffordable effects and leads to damage of the components as well reduce their life. The life of the components will be increased by suppressing the vibration transmitted to the automotive chassis. The Internal combustion engines are found to be major source of generating vibration in an automobile. In this regard rubber mounts are used to minimize the transmissibility by damping out the vibration. Generally, the rubber mounts used in automotives are made of cast iron and steel which are stuffed with elastomeric rubbers have less damping ability due to the materials used for supporting. There are requirements on materials that has better damping and good stiffness to fulfill the requirements of vibration reduction and strength. Al6061 is a category of aluminium alloy that has good damping and corrosion resistance properties and also its strength and damping qualities will be improved with incorporation of ceramic materials like SiC. In this research article, the engine mounts are manufactured using Al6061-SiC Metal Matrix composites (MMC) and experimentally studies were conducted for the properties and the damping ability of the mounts. The Al6061-MMC mounts with 7.5% Sic were exhibited the good damping ratio of 0.048551 and with least transmissibility ratio of 24.37. The mounts are also tested for the vibration isolation behaviours for various speed conditions by fitting as mount for the diesel engine.Copyright (c) 2022 Elsevier Ltd.
