The characteristic-based-split method for 3D incompressible flows on unstructured grids

This paper describes the Characteristic-Based-Split (CBS) algorithm and its application to the, solution of three dimensional, incompressible flow problems. Both fully explicit and semi-implicit schemes are discussed. An artificial compressibility is introduced to treat the equations fully, explicitly and a Poisson type equation, for pressure, is implicitly solved in the semi-implicit scheme. A stable solution is achieved by rising the convective stabilization terms obtained from Characteristic discretization, and no explicit addition of artificial dissipation is necessary.
