摘要：
Today, there are separate networks infrastructures for fixed and mobile communications, and for Internet access support. In future, however, a layered architecture with diverse service provision based on common network technologies is foreseen. The network evolution towards this goal is considered in the context of the standardisation work for UMTS. The scope of this paper includes 3GPP work for Release 2000 and wireline access to 3(rd) Generation mobile services.
