Analyses of extractives from different wood species

Analyses of wood extracts were performed by Gas Chromatography with the aim of gaining knowledge on compositions of lipophilic components from different wood species of interest for European mills. A simple analytical scheme was developed for a routine determination of individual lipophilic components. Determinations of acute toxicity of water and acetone extracts were also performed and considerable differences were observed between species. The analytical method could be considered as a first step in the identification of compounds responsible for toxic effects.
