摘要
BACKGROUND: Chronic ectopic pregnancy is rare and is defined as a tubal gestation that has undergone abortion or repetitive minor bleeding episodes, resulting in subsequent inflammatory reaction, extensive adhesions, and mass formation. Its clinical and imaging manifestations are not classical. It is unusual for chronic ectopic pregnancy to be manifested as huge pelvic masses and bilateral hematosalpinx. CASES: Case 1 was a 24-year-old woman with no symptoms. MRI revealed a mass in the pelvis with components of fluid and hemorrhage. Tubal dilation and hematosalpinx were also detected. Case 2 was a 41-year-old woman with pain and distension in the lumbosacral region. MRI revealed a mass in the pelvis with features similar to those of Case 1. The diagnoses of ectopic pregnancy in the 2 cases were confirmed by histopathological examination. CONCLUSION: MRI is an excellent problem-solving tool in defining chronic ectopic pregnancy, especially when sonography fails to reach the diagnosis.
