Matrix method for the strategic planning of technology programs

A matrix method used for systematic strategic planning of academic technology programs is presented. The method creates a visual snapshot of a program's offerings and human resource allotment, Modifications and enhancements resulting from continuous improvement efforts are displayed in matrix form to define their impact upon the program. The method requires a decisive formulation of a program mission and focus, systematically tracks program continuous improvements, helps maintain technical currency by monitoring emerging technologies, and identifies the resources necessary to implement program strategy. An example of the method used during the strategic planning of a mechanical engineering technology program is provided.
