Numerical simulation of partially premixed combustion using the flamelet approach

Partially premixed combustion in the flamelet regime is simulated using the two-scalar level set approach. It combines the flamelet models developed for non-premixed and premixed combustion. In the flamelet regime the calculation of the chemical processes can be separated from the flow calculation, so that the flow solver need not resolve any chemical scales. To account for the combustion controlling mechanisms, mixing and flame propagation, transport equations are solved for the mixture fraction Z and the level set function G. These quantities and the scalar dissipation rate chi serve as input parameters for pre-calculated triple flame libraries which provide the chemical composition of the flow and the burning velocity s(L). A hybrid tracking capturing scheme is used to solve the governing equations.
