This paper reviews the present experimental situation in studies of diffractive processes, with particular emphasis on new results coming from the HERA and Tevatron colliders. The interplay between soft and hard processes that characterizes these results provides a challenge for QCD and is providing new insights into the nature of the Pomeron.
