摘要：
The people of the Western Pacific Region of the World Health Organization are undergoing a rapid epidemiological transition. The burden of noncommunicable diseases, in particular type 2 diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) and its vascular complications, is increasing in all countries. In response to a request by the Regional Advisor and the Regional Director of the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific (WPRO), a Western Pacific diabetes and noncommunicable diseases information network (WPDIN) has been proposed to deal with this burden. This paper reports on the First International Conference of WPDIN, which took place in November 1999, and the plans for its future development.
