Numerical simulation of strength of turbulence effect on normal shock/homogeneous turbulence interaction

Shock wave interactions with grid-generated homogeneous and isotropic turbulence are observed numerically by solving the time-dependent three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with k-epsilon turbulence model for a compressible fluid. The amplification of longitudinal turbulence intensity and turbulent kinetic energy level are measured numerically for different turbulence regimes located along the longitudinal distance behind the turbulence-generating grid in the shock tube. The amplification range of longitudinal turbulence intensity is from 1.318 to 1.453 and the amplification range of turbulent kinetic energy level is from 1.845 to 1.949 in interaction of normal shock with different strength of homogeneous turbulent fields where the dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy decrease in all the cases of the strength of turbulent fields.
