The Relationship between Locus of Control and Coping Style among Middle School Youth

To examine the relationship between locus of control and coping style, we used the Jihua Xiao's Coping Style Questionnaire and Internal-External Locus of Control Scale. The data were obtained from 159 middle school youth. The study findings suggested that: (a) the back off and locus of control had multiple difference in gender; (b) there was significant correlation between locus of control and coping style; and (c) internal control type was significant predictors of self-blame, back off and fantasy. We could conclude that the high locus of control and internal control type individuals tended to use problem-solving and seek-help coping style, the external control type individuals would be more inclined to use the self-blame, rationalization, back off and fantasy coping style.
