Hyperlipidaemia and cardiovascular disease

The importance of qualitative and quantitative changes in lipoprotein moieties may provide greater information with regard to stratification of those at risk of CVD. The evolution of imaging modalities is beginning to reveal the effects of these hyperlipidaemias on the vascular endothelium. In future, multi-drug regimens may be targeted to high-risk hyperlipidaemic patients identified with the aid of noninvasive vascular imaging. Serial noninvasive assessments of vascular function and structure may provide evidence of improved vascular function in response to treatment, and thus predict reductions in cardiovascular risk.
