The geographic contribution characteristics of vegetation indexes was analyzed according to the field of information and high spectral resolution ASTER satellite image data interpretation, supported by and ERDAS8.6 and ArcGIS9.0, a normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), extracting ratio index (RIV), the difference vegetation index (DVI), from the basin of the Yuanmou Dry-hot, using spatial analysis functions of GIS to extract elevation, aspect and slope data to study geographical distribution of vegetation index. The results show that the region NDVI mean to 0.156; DVI mean to 15.297; RI mean to 1.411. Vegetation Index with the elevation is increasing; the slope of west and the east has the higher vegetation index, and which of the north has the minimum in the study area; When the slope is lower than 40 the vegetation index increases with the slope degree increases, while the slope is higher than 40, the vegetation index increases with the reduce of slope degrees. And when the slope is greater than 40 degrees, NDVI, RVI can be better reflect the vegetation index in elevation, aspect, slope on the geographical distribution.
