摘要
Distribution of the edible cockle, Cerastoderma edule was investigated in the gulf Levrie, Mauritania, at the southern border of its distribution area. The populations of the cockle in the gulf Levrie are located in the littoral zone of two closed bays, both with the minimum surf and a reduced tidal influence. Sandy and, to a lesser extent, sandy-silt grounds serve as habitats. Morphological peculiarities, the dimension-mass composition, size and biomass of the cockle populations were studied, analyzed and compared for a place where cockles are being harvested and for a place where their stock is not exploited yet. Size and biomass are also presented for the benthic organisms accompanying the cockle.
