This paper discusses the preparation and antibacterial performance of a silver-loaded maifanite. The silver-loaded maifanite was prepared by mixing pretreated maifanite with AgNO(3) solution. The influence of preparation process on silver-loading ability of maifanite was studied and the optimum preparation process was determined. Maifanite with the particle size lower than 74 gm was soaked in 0.5 mol.L(-1) NaOH solution at room temperature, washed with water, dried at 100 degrees C, reacted with 0.1 mol.L(-1) AgNO3 at pH 6-7 for 2 h, and the silver-loading content could reach to 1.25wt%. The results show that the silver-loading reaction is an ion exchanging mechanism between Ag(+) and ions in maifanite. The antibacterial experiments indicate that the antibacterial ability to bacilluscoli of silver-loaded maifanite is much better than silver-unloaded maifanite and as the heating temperature of silver-loaded maifanite increased, its antibacterial ability dropped obviously.
