摘要
The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment [1], which is being prepared at CERN, will use a tracker alignment system, as shown in figure 1. The work presented in the following lines refers to the design, development and testing of the first prototype of the alignment wheel system which is currently being developed at INEGI. In order to explain what was done, and believing that it is important for engineering design to examine how different options are taken and why, the next sections will address preliminary FEM analysis, production and design issues and testing, both photogrammetry and dynamic analysis. Design and production wilt be discussed in great detail, from insert design to coupling between parts, sandwich edge sealing and material properties. Although dealing with advanced composites and using refined testing techniques this work was mainly focused on producing a viable solution for the CMS tracker alignment wheel system.
