GERMINATION OF VARIOUS TYPES OF SEEDS Brachiaria brizantha cv. BRS PIATA

The assessment of seeds physical and physiological quality is an important aspect in determining the effects caused by seed treatments available. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different treatments on physiological quality of Brachiaria brizantha cv. BRS Piata seeds. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial 3 x 2, three types of seeds treatment (high purity, scarified and scarified and covered) and two types of substrate moistening (distilled water and potassium nitrate) with four replicates, and conducted at glasshouse and field conditions. Were performed: purity test, moisture content determination, germination test, first count of the germination test, emergence speed index, tetrazolium test and accelerated aging test. It was found that scarification reduces seeds dormancy showing positive effects on its germination. The coating seed may be a better alternative pasture productivity, but can be seen that the coating is one of the factors that delay germination in Brachiaria brizantha cv. BRS Piata. The use of potassium nitrate was more effective when performed in the field.
