Art and aesthetic experience in pragmatist tradition

Pragmatist thought is in tune with modern artistic processes. This paper shows how and why pragmatism may connect art and its objects with the whole of a culture and its language games. Dewey's concept of 'experience' is examined as a useful way of overcoming the main difficulties that obscure most contemporary aesthetics and our individual or social relations to art. In American philosophy, pragmatist aesthetics seems to regain the prominence it lost in the 1940s.
