Positron emission tomography in clinical practice: Yes, but

Positron emission tomography (PET) is not currently a method of clinical investigation. This is due to a severe limitation of resources: cyclotron, radiochemistry, radiopharmacy, PET camera, acquisition, processing and interpretation of data. PET research has produced good results on an individual and competitive basis, but clinical PET requires the collective approach of a medical community contributing to a common goal. Wholebody scintigraphy with FDG in oncology may well be the first clinical application of PET if all the partners join their efforts to make it a success.
