摘要
Sepsis carries a high mortality in the United States. Hospitals across the country are working to find new ways to recognize, treat, and streamline care for patients with sepsis. At an academic medical center in the Midwest, a quality improvement project was developed using a sepsis rapid response team with physician associates/assistants (PAs) and NPs. This improved hospital adherence to sepsis evaluation and order set use from 48% to 86%. The added evaluation of the patient by a PA or NP, along with ensuring adherence to the sepsis order set, made an effective first step to improve care of patients with sepsis in this hospital.
