Ground Heat Exchanger is the key component of Ground-Coupled Heat Pump system. But so far there is not a convenient, correct and suitable method to determine its length. In this paper, Typical Meteorological Year data was used to determine the hottest month, the coldest month and mean annual soil temperature. When the building load is known, the building hourly load can be obtained by introducing the concept of Equilibrium Temperature. Then, the cooling run fraction and the heating run fraction can be calculated. And a vertical U-tube heat exchanger length calculation example was given. In the end of this paper, vertical U-tube Ground Heat Exchanger design method was summarized.
