Contribution deals with status of nurses in society and in the field of education. It shows the possibilities and ways, how the representatives of the helping professions undertaken in the area of self-education. Also refers to the difficulties, restrictions and regulations that have been and are connected with the process of modification of legislative changes in lifelong learning of nurses after the Czech Republic joined the European Union.
