Fast growth of well-aligned carbon nanotubes by chemical vapor deposition on plain glass

摘要
Well-aligned carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were synthesized on a plain quartz substrate by chemical vapor deposition. This was done by the continuous supply and decomposition of a ferrocene-xylene solution at 775 T for 60 min similar to 120 min with N-2 as the carrier gas. Experimental results show that well aligned CNTs formed at 775 degreesC for a reaction time of 120 min have a length of 200 mum. Additionally, when extending the reaction time from 60 min to 120 min and keeping the reaction temperature of 775 degreesC, the length of the aligned CNTs increased from 100 mum to 200 mum, but their outer diameter had no obvious change. The fast growth of aligned CNTs is suggested to be a combined effect of lack of hydrogen, a high temperature and the continuous supply of catalysts under the present experimental conditions.
