This article is an updated review emphasizing the importance of preventing cardiovascular disease starting in childhood through the modification of risk factors. There is a strong rationale for the initiation of dyslipoproteinemia treatment in Childhood to Limit the earliest stages of atherosclerosis, to establish lifelong lifestyle changes in diet and activity, and to limit the acquisition of additional cardiovascular disease risk factors such as smoking and obesity. Recent developments in therapy for pediatric dyslipoproteinemia, prevention programs, and screening guidelines are discussed.
