摘要
As part of the effort to voluntarily reduce CO2 emissions and GHG emissions, U.S. initiated projects to develop wind energy sources. One such project is the proposed Cape Wind energy project which involves the construction of 130 turbines arranged over a 24-square-mile area on Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound off Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The wind project is expected to offset annual greenhouse gas CO2 emissions in the region by one million tons per year. The completed project would generate a maximum of 420 MW at peak power, and an average of about 170 MW, to satisfy on average 74% of the electrical energy needs of the entire Cape and Islands area. If and when the project is started depends on the U.S, Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) review of the project proposal.
