Green synthesis of arabinoxyloglucan coated antimicrobial copper nanoparticles

Water hyacinth was explored for economic and cheaper extraction of arabinoxyloglucan. 16% (w/w) yield was achieved for arabinoxyloglucan from Water hyacinth. The composition analysis through IIPLC displayed the presence of glucose, xylose and arabinose monomers. HPSEC analysis gave a molecular mass of similar to 85 kDa for isolated arabinoxyloglucan. H-1 and C-13 NMR of arabinoxyloglucan confirmed the presence of L-arabinofuranosyl residue substitution at the 2-O position of xylosyl unit. DSC, TGA and DTG studies of arabinoxyloglucan showed thermal denaturation at 300 degrees C. The copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) were synthesized by using arabinoxyloglucan as a capping agent. 1% arabinoxyloglucan, 100 mM copper nitrate, 5% ascorbic acid and 5 min microwave heating gave maximum CuNPs synthesis. The XRD analysis of CuNPs showed the crystalline nature. The FE-TEM analysis showed that. the CuNPs are nearly spherical with an average size of 70 nm. The FE-TEM analysis confirmed the coating of arabinoxyloglucan around the CuNPs. The CuNPs exhibited the antibacterial activity against E. coli, S. aureus and S. mutans.
