Noninvasive vascular studies, the essential information needed for surgeons

Noninvasive testing for vascular disease is very popular in the USA because of high accuracy, low cost, and no discomfort to the patient In the Vascular Diagnostics Center of Oak Ridge, 5000 noninvasive studies are done annually on hospital and private patients. We perform ongoing quality control on the 5000 tests including carotid artery disease, aortoiliac stenosis, abdominal aneurysms, peripheral arterial and venous disease in upper and lower extremities, as well as renal artery and mesenteric artery assessment Other less frequent studies are for vasculogenic impotency, vasospastic disorders and preoperative evaluation and follow-up on AV fistulas for renal dialysis. It is critical that noninvasive vascular laboratories have documented accurate studies so that surgeons may base their diagnosis and treatment on these studies thus avoiding the expense and morbidity of invasive arteriograms.
