摘要
This paper presents a case for replacing the iconic bathtub curve with a conceptual curve suitable for fault management (FM) of groups of distributed events: life cycle, maintenance cycle, performance metrics. The bathtub curve was derived from models applicable to exponential distributions of solid-state devices. The life-cycle group comprises the following: mean-time-to-use (MTTU), mean-time-to-degradation (MTTD, and mean-time-to-failure (MTTF). The maintenance-cycle group is a mean-time-to-maintenance (MTTM) comprising mean-timeto-begin maintenance (MTTB) and mean-time-to-complete maintenance (MTTC). The performance-metrics group comprises the following intervals of time (distances): begin degradation (BD), degradation distance (DD), prognostic distance (PD), remaining useful life (RUL), and prognostic horizon (PH). The distributions may be symmetrical, skewed left, or skewed right.
