Reorganization of the Rubeland lime works with particular regard to processing the small-size limestone

The example of the Rubeland lime works is used to describe the change from an uneconomic producer of hard-burnt lime for the carbide industry to a cost-effective producer of limestone and lime products with a wide product range. Full utilization (put into effect after German re-unification) of the limestone material extracted in the quarry including utilization of the stockpiled material from earlier years, is illustrated with aid of process and quantity pow sheets. The small-size limestone is now processed in a Marz kiln for small-size limestone, in the production of limestone meal, grit and chippings for flue gas desulphurization, and in the production of limestone sands for ore preparation in the steel industry. A report is also given of the environmental friendliness and resource conservation of the present production system.
