Lifetimes of the metastable 3d 2D3/2 and 3d 2D5/2 levels in Ca+ measured by laser probing of a stored ion beam

摘要
A laser probing method has been used in an ion storage ring to measure the lifetimes of the metastable 3d D-2(3/2) and 3d D-2(5/2) levels in Ca+. The lifetimes obtained were 1.17 +/- 0.05 s for D-2(3/2) and 1.09 +/- 0.05 s for D-2(5/2). The most accurate results from ion trap measurements differ by 10% from each other. Our value for D-2(5/2) supports the longer lifetime value reported from Werth's group. For the D-2(3/2) level, the new measurement is consistent with previous results.
