Jurassic of the Tatra Mountains - Western Carpathian sector of the Western Tethys

Jurassic deposits of the Tatra Mts. recognized in a structural pile of several tectonic units belong to the Tatricum, Fatricum and Hronicum domains. In Jurassic Tethyan paleogeography they were separated from the European plate by an oceanic domain resulted from rifting processes which started at the beginning of Jurassic. Syn - rift (Early Jurassic beginning of Middle Jurassic) and post - rift (Bajocian - Early Cretaceous) stages recorded in Tatricum and Fatricum succession and partly, also in Hronicum one, were related to the evolution of this oceanic domain - a possible prolongation of Ligurian ocean.
